Terms of use
Last updated 2 November 2026
These terms apply when you use extrabutter. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it. Our privacy policy explains how information is used.
What extrabutter is
extrabutter suggests films for one person, a couple or a group, based on public Letterboxd diaries and the favourite films you choose. Suggestions are opinions made by an algorithm. They can be wrong, and we don't promise that you'll enjoy a film, that its details are right, or that it's available where you live. Check ratings, content warnings and availability yourself before you watch.
Using the site
- Use extrabutter for your own, personal, non-commercial use.
- Only add Letterboxd usernames you have good reason to use, such as your own and those of friends who'd be happy for you to. Don't use the site to harass, profile or track anyone.
- Don't try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the site, get around its limits (such as how many emails can be sent), or collect its data automatically.
- Don't use the email feature to send mail to people who haven't asked for it.
Other people's services and content
extrabutter is an independent project. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Letterboxd, TMDB, JustWatch, YouTube or Google. Film information, images and streaming availability come from those services and remain theirs or their owners'. Posters, titles and trailers belong to their respective rights holders. This product uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.
Letterboxd is a trademark of its owners; we use the name only to say where public diary data comes from. Streaming information can be out of date or incomplete.
Our content
The extrabutter name, logo, design and code are ours. You may view and use the site normally, but you may not copy or republish them without permission.
Emails and the newsletter
If you ask us to email your picks, we send you one email. If you tick the newsletter box and confirm, we'll send you film news and picks until you unsubscribe, which you can do at any time with the link in each email.
No guarantees, and limits on our responsibility
extrabutter is provided free, “as is” and “as available”. It may be unavailable, change or be withdrawn at any time, and we can't promise it will be free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss that comes from using the site, including a film you didn't enjoy, wrong or outdated information, or the failure of a service we rely on. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law that can't be limited, or our responsibility for things the law doesn't allow us to exclude.
Changes and ending
We may update these terms, and the date at the top shows the latest version. Using the site after a change means you accept it. We may suspend or stop access if someone breaks these terms.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws that apply where the person running extrabutter is based, except that if you're a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws where you live.
